British studio pottery was revolutionised in the 1930's by Jewish ceramicists fleeing Nazi Europe.  Until then, ceramics had been dominated by the ideas of Bernard Leach, who drew his inspiration from early Japanese pottery and the English folk tradition.  Shaping ceramics, an exhibition staged st the Jewish Museum London in 2016, showcased these early ceramicists such as Lucie Rie and Hans Coper and traced their influence on successive generations of Jewish ceramic artists, also exploring their major contributions to the crafts scene in the UK.

This catalogue expands upon the exhibition, sharing essays and contributions from Janine Barker, David Bruer-Weil, Claudia Clare, Edmund de Waal, Laura Philips and Ray Silverman, along with exhibition co-curators Agi Katz and Julia Weiner.
